Water Towers: Paintings and Drawings

This series of paintings and drawings explores the iconic rooftop water towers of New York City. First encountered during a visit to New York in 2015, these distinctive structures captured my imagination with their curious presence above the city's dense urban landscape. Perched on steel frameworks and silhouetted against the skyline, they appeared both functional and mysterious - part engineering, part architectural sculpture.

Through drawing, painting, collage, and experimentation with colour and form, the water towers became a vehicle for investigating themes of observation, memory, journeys, and the relationship between the built environment and the imagination.

The final paintings move between representation and abstraction, transforming familiar structures into strange, watchful forms that evoke ideas of science fiction, poetry, and the hidden stories embedded within the cityscape.
